encaustic assemblage

Pages from my mothers old piano music books lay in a box for many years. The writing from her teachers with suggestions and completion dates mark the pages. I was drawn to these pages because I know that it was painful when her Dupuytren's Contracture made it impossible for her to continue playing. This painful condition permanently contracts the fingers in a bent position. I created this work by cutting up the pages of her music and sewing them together in a new configuration. After they are brushed with an encaustic medium (a mixture of beeswax and resin) I folded the pages in an accordian style and sewed them into this fan shape. This piece is entitled Czerny, Opus 820. Sold.
